edge design contemporary curved house

This house is another small villa designed for a plot in Rahes, Lamia. The location of the site is on the highest boarders of the town at a relatively slopped landscape with dramatic views towards the sea.

The proposal focuses on two major ideas. The first is the desire to take advantage of the natural beauty of the site and the second is to create a dynamic built environment which will foster maximum use of environmentally friendly sources of energy.

To start with, aesthetically, the proposal suggests a monolithic shell out of concrete, which will make the structure appear as a uniform mass, almost like a natural sculpture that has emerged from below its surface. The floor plan obeys to a typology in which all spaces are organized at one level. The total area does not exceed the 200m2, and all the rooms are spacious and with a good number of openings.

The house is surrounded from all sides by a lovely garden, and on the side there is a space left to be used as a playground in the future. At the back of the plot there is a spacious garage to feet two cars.

In addition the design respects the principles of energy efficiency. So, the concrete walls are acting as thermal mass, the openings according to their position trap the suns heat and light to the extend that they are required and the garden is arranged so that it creates a microclimate around the house.
